Our History
Founder’s Story
In 1966, Gregory R. Gomes founded Webco Hawaii distributing one brand from the trunk of his car earning $578 in gross revenue in its first month. Today, Webco Hawaii works with 150 manufacturers, representing over 300 brands with teams across the state.
Greg truly cared about the manufacturers and retailers that he worked with. He created a family company that continues to build relationships with global manufacturers and retailers. 59 years later, Webco continues to provide life’s essentials with aloha to local families and individuals.

Patrick Sato-GomesWebco Foundation Board Chair
Greg was known for having a big personality and making a big impact. Passionate about golf and his alma mater Saint Louis School, he turned his love for the game into a way to give back. In the early 80’s,
Greg launched the St. Louis School Golf Tournament raising over $1million for student scholarships. But he didn’t stop there; he was inspired by the success of the tournament to create the Webco Foundation in 2003.
The Greg Gomes Memorial Golf Tournament is hosted annually to support the Foundation’s scholarship programs and community giving.
With Greg’s passing in 2020, Patrick Sato-Gomes, now President and Chief Operating Officer of Webco Hawaii and Board Chair of the Webco Foundation, is taking the helm to carry on his grandfather’s legacy:
“My Grandfather was grateful for those who supported his drive to enable future generations to carry on the aloha spirit that made Hawaii the only place he ever wanted to be. He wove that love of the islands and its people into the fabric of Webco. Because of the example that he set, our employees have the mentality that it’s not enough to be good in business; you need to be an even better corporate citizen and give back to the community to educate our children, to ensure that our local businesses continue to thrive, and be around to provide opportunities for our island ohana. His greatest joy was seeing local businesses and local residents succeed and perpetuate The Magic of Hawaii.”
It’s Our Privilege to Give.
Today, the Webco Foundation supports charitable organizations focused on human services, community development, and education. Through the Foundation’s Community Partnerships program, we have assisted local organizations such as Family Promise Hawaii, Ma‘i Movement, Hawaii Health and Harm Reduction Center, The Pantry, and more by providing assistance with hygiene kits, program supplies, or grant support.
The Greg Gomes Memorial Golf Tournament is hosted annually to support the Foundation’s scholarship programs and community giving.
